I believe you can live a life of courage. I believe you can take the bold step. Take the creative risk. Do the hard thing. Speak the tough words. And fight the good fight.
You might not believe this yet. But my hope is that you’ll keep fighting for it.
How do we fight for courage?
Especially when we live in a time where fear is running through our streets and hearts like a contagious disease?
This is a great question, isn’t it?
Maybe my eyes are more open to it now, but I feel like I see fear everywhere. Just looking into someone’s eyes, I can see the fear that’s sunk into their hearts.
Maybe the reason I can see it is because I’ve been there. I can fully recognize the fear in someone’s heart because of the fear that’s plagued mine.
I know what it’s like to be crippled by fear – and I hate it.
Living in a perpetual state of fear has done nothing good for me. In fact, I’ve seen it do three things in my life:
- It’ll stop you from going
- It’ll stop you from speaking
- It’ll stop you from being
But you know what? After years of fighting for courage in spite of fear, I feel like I’ve finally gotten a taste of what freedom really looks like. And it’s been revolutionary for me.
You see, I’ve been riding this wave, making brave step after brave step; and this continuous motion toward a life of courage is opening up a part of me I didn’t realize was there.
It’s like a door to a whole new reality has been opened for me.
One that isn’t based on how well I manage all areas of my life.
One that sees the future as something completely serious and totally not serious at the same time.
This new reality isn’t my efforts to control the world around me and create a false security from things that might hurt me. It’s about embracing the pain and not running from it. I’m allowing myself to feel rather than numb myself to my emotions.
This new reality is bringing me from a place of death to a place of life.
I’m slowly becoming my true, fullest self.
And gosh, it is beautiful.
Scary? Yes. Messy? Of course. But absolutely beautiful.
Y’all. On the other side of fear is freedom.
I know because I’ve seen it.
Take the courageous first step. I promise you it’s worth it.
