“WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE!”
You know who said that? Drake.
I’m sure someone else coined it first, but whenever I think about how awesome life is, I hear Drake’s voice in my head. (He’s telling me I need some really nice things and really big rings too, but I’m ignoring that part.)
He’s right though. What a time to be alive!
I live in a super cute apartment with two cats that my roommate knows I hate but it’s cool because we split the rent and that makes a little cat hair tolerable.
I work for an amazing organization in the burbs of Kansas City. Sometimes this fact makes me forget I’m not in college anymore.
I long to stay up late and watch all my favorite shows, but end up going to bed early because I’m an adult now and that just doesn’t fly anymore.
I sit in meetings at work, make a suggestion, then laugh in my head, wondering why they take advice from a 12-year-old in adult clothing.
I pay taxes. Gross.
I pay bills. Even grosser.
I binge watch New Girl on Netflix. Until very late.
I break out in spontaneous dance parties when there’s free food at work.
This is my current state of life at the age of 24.
But you know what I love about all this? It may not be the most planned out, glamorous, ideal life, but it’s my life. I’m doing this thing. And it is so dang fun.
I feel like we’re on this wild ride; this crazy, whirlwind of an adventure where we’re stepping out, making mistakes, and growing non-stop. We’re trying to learn what independence looks like while still looking to our parents for guidance. We’re balancing our new post-college social lives with real world responsibilities as graceful as we can. We’re traveling the globe, facing adversity, meeting new people, and pursuing dreams.
With child-like hope in our eyes, we live with this ambitious notion that anything is possible. That we can change the world if we dedicate our time to it. That we can hone our craft if we’re diligent in it. That our dreams are not out of reach if we care enough to go for them.
It’s stressful, exhausting and challenging.
It’s also rewarding, life-giving and exhilarating.
There’s so much to love about this season of life. That’s why I’m starting a series on my blog called Twenty Tuesdays.
On Tuesdays, I’m dedicating my blog space to the wild ride that is our 20’s. This is for all the 20-somethings out there who are trying (unsuccessfully at times) to be an adult. For those who are running straight toward a future that is so unknown it’s scary. For those who are transitioning from college to real world, wishing they could go back to the dorm days. For those who are learning what it means to live out their faith in this world. For those who have been on their own for years and still wish they didn’t have to cook, clean or do laundry. For those who are trying to do it all and realizing they can’t. For those who are loving this time in their lives and living it to the full.
This is my ode to the 20-somethings, if you will.
What you can expect on #TwentyTuesdays
- Guest posts from other 20-somethings
- Songs that celebrate the young, wild and free nature of this season
- Inspirational articles about relationships, singleness, careers, dreams, and how God intersects all those things
- More things that I haven’t decided on yet but will let you know later
I’m really excited about this series. I’m excited to see what God has planned for it and I’m pumped to see how other 20-somethings interact with it.
PS – you can still read these articles, even if you’re not 20-something! :)
And hey, if you’re a 20-something and you want to write a guest post, hit me up! I’d be more than happy to feature your beautiful self.
See you next Tuesday! Love you guys,
